One possible reason why boats no longer achieve appropriate speeds at full throttle is a spun prop. This occurs when the bond between the propshaft and blades are broken, which subsequently causes the rubber insert to spin independently. Even if your boat is operational, riding with a spun blade places the propeller at risk for damage. Depending on the severity of the problem, it could leave your boat dead in the water unless the problem is fixed ASAP.

Why Does My Outboard Sputter at Full Throttle?

Have you checked your propeller for debris? Cutting away any entangled debris such as this should solve your problem. Another possible cause is an air leak in the fuel line. Air leaks in the fuel line are typically created through either natural wear or damage to the line.

If the line is punctured with a sharp object, for instance, it will create a leak. Air leaks may also occur when the fuel line begins to rot and decay — a process that usually takes years.

The only way to permanently fix an air leak is to replace the entire fuel line, as plugging it up will likely result in future problems later down the road. We are open and working our normal schedule.

Always start with the simple and obvious things first, no matter how unlikely you think they may be. That's because there is no load on the motor! Why do so many folks think that revving an outboard in neutral somehow tells you something or fixes something?

I've spent my entire life around boats and always have, and continue to, witness guys at the dock revving their motors in neutral over and over while complaining they "just don't understand why it doesn't work when I put it in gear. He's a High tiered certified Yamaha tech. I ran the engine dry last fall during winterization and treated the fuel. Oh well. I revved the engine out of gear to try to determine if the oil protection circuit was engaging. Not sure if that applies to in or out of gear but thought it could help the diagnosis. Switching tanks will not bypass this. Also pull the plugs and see if they look the same or if one is blacker or wetter than the others. When the carb is empty replace the screw. Carefully let the rag evaporate somewhere away from any ignition source--no more clogged jets, next time boating :- Running the engine, with the fuel line disconnected till it stops, still leaves enough fuel in the carbs to gum-up the jets if left unused for a long time. He freed it up and cleaned all the carbs, re-installed and set up the engine in his tank.

I purchased this spring from a friend that's father passed away. Boat was fogged for winter but sat for approx. He had professionally serviced regularly. Sometimes it seems to surge slightly up then down, if I hit waves it sometimes surges down, but most of the time it won't get past mark. No alarms going off? Does have a crack on the bracket that holds the choke solenoid not sure that this would effect anything?

I would think that only on the starting end of things. I replaced gas hose, bulb water separator filter twice, didn't see water in gas when dumped water seperator filter Gas into a jar, put a new fuel filter strainer kit in it, changed oil injection oil out, new gas, sea foam Like new yet. They are lost. This Is not an option. Seems they don't want to deal with older suzuki. I thought suzuki dealer dealt in everything not just new motors? If yes, would check float settings on those carbs. If no, then need to check pulse coils for those cylinders. Also check gear counting coil if not right distance from teeth throws timing out. Another possibility would be the TPS throttle position sensorit could be breaking down at half to full throttle, this would affect timing, but generally should show a code?

Also, when they rebuilt the low pressure fuel pump, did they look to see if the two clear discs check valves were intact, they can't be replaced unless the pump is replaced. If they did a good job cleaning carbs then I would look into those things I mentioned above.Went out Sunday and didn't even make it out of the harbour.

Engine started fine, revs fine in neutral but once over revs in gear loses power under load. Has new plugs, fuel lines all seem ok, just seems it wants to kick on but splutters and drops back. Didn't stall at all just lack of power. Can't get it in for service until jan 2 either so anyone got any ideas that may solve my problem.

It will run fine at half throttle after that. It is snot over heating and it has a new water pump and new fuel filters. The tank is venter and all lines going to the motor are fine.

We just bough the boat, used, but the previous owner really kept it as his baby.

By looking at it, you really couldn't tell its a 91 key west. Prestine condition. But the motor? He has a mech that works on it and it is in very good condition. I know his mechanic, I use him also. But dollars are few and fare between.
